Child Dedication

What Is Child Dedication?

Child Dedication is a biblical practice that encourages parents, as the primary disciple-makers in their homes, to dedicate the way they live and raise their children according to Scripture. It's about thanking God for the gift of their children and committing before God and their church family to raise their children in a godly home. Our goal in VIVE has always been and will continue to be, partnering with parents as we seek to help the Next Generation live for the glory of God and make disciples.

Child Dedication Sunday is not a Baptism. It is not a sacrament. It does not impart salvation to the child. We believe that parents cannot “decide” their children’s salvation for them. When children are old enough to understand the concept of sin, the broken relationship between them and God, and believe in His work on the cross and through His resurrection, then they can be ready to make a decision about choosing a life in relationship with God. Parents can and are responsible before God, however, to lay a clear and biblical foundation through their example and teaching, which will help their children prepare to make that decision when the time comes.

We’re excited to celebrate Child Dedication on Sunday, Nov 24th, 2024!

Affirmations and Commitments

As you dedicate your child to the Lord, it’s also a time for you, as parents, to commit to being an example of what someone who glorifies Jesus looks like, exhibiting the characteristics of Jesus for your children.

During the dedication gathering, we will ask the parent(s) to affirm and commit to the following:

  • Affirm that your child is a gift from God, and you glorify and thank Him for this gift

  • Commit to living under the authority of Scripture in every area of your life

  • Commit to having a deepening and personal relationship with Jesus

  • Commit to consistently praying for your child, instructing them faithfully in the teachings of faith in Jesus and God’s Word

  • Commit, with God’s guidance and through your own example, to teaching your child how to love God and others
